Kicking the Bucket (Elevator)
A cement manufacturer in Western New York contacted us to replace their bucket conveyor. In general, bucket conveyors consist of a bucket elevator and an endless belt or chain with a series of attached buckets. The buckets are filled, lifted vertically to a head pulley or sprocket, and dumped. This company used the bucket elevator to feed a dryer kiln, but the system was worn out and inefficient for their application.
They called Maple Grove Enterprises to design and fabricate a replacement conveyor, among other millwright services. Our team evaluated their entire transfer system and decided that a belt conveyor would more efficiently move the material directly to the dryer kiln.
First, we built the belt conveyor in our shop. We used a Dodge mine duty wing pulley assembly and an engineered drum pulley assembly to power the belt. In our shop, we assembled the head pulley, tail pulley, and gear box and then applied an advanced polyurethane paint system.
At the customer’s plant, we removed the old bucket elevator, relined the dryer kiln with A/R plate, replaced the spouting, relined the cold feed hopper, insulated the rotary kiln, and then installed the new belt conveyor.
